Time for some rest after hell of half serious / serious posting. Been a while i did not post any “Firewall Training” stuff. This time, I going to upgrade my story abit. No more Firewall, no more Linux concept. We gonna talk about Networking tools. Which is super duper networking tools which no one owns it. Yes, i am saying. If you owns it, you are the best network hacker in the world. (Did i say owns the tools and not program / write the tools).
There are few things that gonna happened during year end.
If these things doesn’t happened. People will look for new job. New job as in joining a new company and start a new life.
Recently i conducted few interviews and i always find running an interview is always a fun thing.
em … I always wanted to end this topic. But before we make it a day, I got one last story to tell. One of the hell story. Well, that to that fellow whom bring us (at least me) alot of fun.
It happened this way. I ask this fellow to go over to a customer site to install two firewalls. Most of the .gov.my’er uses more then one firewall. At least one for outside and one for inside.
Saw this thing from a friend’s blog.
Said also don’t listen.
Listen also don’t understand.
Not understand also don’t ask.
Ask also don’t do.
Do also do wrong.
Wrong also don’t admit.
Admit also don’t correct it.
Correct also not happy.
Not happy also don’t tell.
This is not about firewall training. But it happen to be the same fellows. Usual suspect ?
We are talking a about a Email Firewall here. The reason why they call it as a Email Firewall is just because the thing is using FreeBSD and build in postfix and ipfw. So .. this is a Email Firewall.
This box is just a MTA. It received emails, scan and forward to the mail server. Email server will make sure all the outgoing email will be send to the box and make sure the box will learn the email.
The story comes like this. I was having a chat with the CEO of my company and we mention talk about some spamming issues. So, my CEO decided to call the “usual suspect” to ask him some question.

After my encounter with OS-less firewall.
I got another experience with this super System Engineer from local leading opensource company. Ya… they got a lot projects (i mean money) from Novell and they claim to be THE first class Novell Linux (SUSE and some other crap) techical support. In another word. Novell did not do and local support over here.
I was working outstation (some out city place) and got a phone call from this Super System Engineer. He told me he got some problem with a program that my company sells.
By the way, there were just some other vendor. Not a reseller nor a customer.
Finally today is the day. I got to train them what is Firewall. My plan is let them play with the firewall for few hours (pfsense) and see how far can they go.
Well, after few hours and I finally discover they did not know what are they doing. I started to ask what is NAT (Source and Destination). What is routing …. and Yes, there is no answer from them at all.
Is not their fault on not to know NAT and some firewall theory. But … Life will not be fun if they can understand everything.
